Can a company deny me commission if I represent myself in a rental deal? I put my name on the application so I wasn't hiding any information.

What commission are you asking about ?? Unless you are a licensed Realtor you cannot receive a commission in a real estate transaction.

If a commission has been offered then the listing brokerage can't just decide they're not going to pay you. Did you sign anything forfeiting your commission?

What did the listing agent say when you asked where your commission check was?

Well they haven't said anything yet. I'm just curious to know in case they try not to pay for whatever reason. I don't see why they would. I asked a couple other agents who said I should get paid but them there was that one who said it happened to her. She had to let someone else get the referral.

Would it not be your broker who actually gets the referral fee, not you? Then, your broker would pay you? Where was the property listed, and was there an offer of compensation?

One agent in my office recently rented a place and didn't receive his commission. There was one offered but the listing agent said to him that he didn't tell her he was representing himself so she assumed she was acting as his agent.

Clearly, she bullied him and he rolled over. Had he asked our broker to contact theirs, I'm sure he would have gotten a check. She knew he was an agent. They've known each other for years.

The only thing I would say is be sure to mention to the listing agent that you are a licensed agent and you are representing yourself. If they give you trouble, go to your broker. Don't just roll over.
