Survey just released by GfK an independent research firm states that 1 in 20 Americans will buy a home next year as they feel market prices have stabilized, the majority of these buyers are in the 30 and under age group.
Your thoughts?
Sorry this is my first time placing a poll on City Data, the first question should read:
'I think the timing is right and will be buying a home next year', just couldn't find a way to correct.
I could only choose one. "I am under the age of 30."
I will be in the market to buy a house in 2010; I don't feel comfortable asserting that I will be buying a house.
I do not "feel" home prices have stabilized, nor do I think they have stabilized, nor do the market statistics of my area indicate they have stabilized.
Government intervention has little impact. If anything it has served to delay my decision.
Real popular poll, but I'd expect the Spendocrats to use it for rationale for another idiotic waste of taxpayer dollars.
Rant off.
I live in Tampa and don't see a lot of fence sitters (like me, for the past 2 years, still leasing a wunnerful place) jumping. Nice, desirable homes are moving with minimal discounts, provided they were priced right. Lots of folks asking for 2005 prices with weeds 3 feet tall in the yards.
For reference, the place I leased in Nov '07 had the owner asking $307k. I'm leasing for $1850, including all lawn expenses. Real nice little bungalow in south Tampa. Offered it to me for $250k a couple months ago. Might buy next year, but am in no hurry. Great landlord and the lease thing works pretty good for me--almost break even when I crunch the numbers.
To each their own, but renting provides great freedom, 'cause ya never know.
Regards,
RR
