I know of friend that had two Whirlpool Tubs installed in his new house and never does use them much. What a waste of money and he paid around 800.00 each.
News, Kiss These 10 Once-Popular Home Features Goodbye
Times are tough in the home-building industry, meaning the 500,000 or so new single-family homes expected to be built this year are going to include more practical and value-conscious features and fewer wish-list items.
These sorts of articles are just total BS tossed out by builders that are hurting and looking to move as much stuff from "standard" to "optional" as they can get away with. New home builders that are still in business have near monopoly power with the sort of docile buyers that foolishly shop only new homes offered by mega builders. Of course these jokesters will say that they can't afford to offer these features / neighborhood amenities as 'standard' when they new that 5+ years of pent up demand will allow 'em to rape any doofus that "demands never lived-in pristine newness" when most of the country is still awash with fabulously priced existing homes...

I could live with all those things. I don't covet them and sure wouldn't pay more for them. The two story stuff puts me off anyway. I never liked that.

There is some truth to this. I sat in a lecture yesterday with a gent that does land sales in MD. While certainly rounded, a 300k home netted the builder about 30k after purchasing the land, building, fees and commissions. The numbers worked out to a 10% decrease in purchase price meant a 45% decrease in revenue. Pretty interesting stuff.
Other than the jetted tub, none of these are standard things out here nor have they ever been. Well except the bonus room and those will stay in floor plans out here.

We don't use ours, but our neighbors were able to fit all their kids in one during a tornado.
