We want to sell our house and move to a warmer, more friendly State than Vermont. The Real Estate Agent who we went with to buy this place is friendly and pleasant. Should we stick with her to sell the house or "interview" others? I don't even know what criteria to look for in a listing Agent. This is all new to me in this country.

Any ideas?

If the agent you worked with when you bought the home is still in the business and keeping in touch with you, I'm sure she'd appreciate the opportunity to help you with selling the home. You can be frank with her and say something like "We really enjoyed working with you when we bought this home. Would you be able to help us sell now that we're thinking of leaving the area?" She may be strictly a buyers agent and not work with listings but if she's a full service agent, she will appreciate you contacting her first about selling the house.

Look online to see which agents do a good job of presenting homes there. Do they put up lots of photos, and are the pictures good? Is the information complete?

Email an agent to see how quickly and how well they respond to email.

Talk to the agent you like and at least one other. Speak on the phone first, then meet with each at your house, with your house in "show condition." Ask them about pricing and if they can suggest ways to stage your house better. Or, instead of "show condition," maybe you should leave some clutter around as a test to see if the agent will tell you to clean it up. Don't be impressed when they tell you how beautiful your house is or how fast it will sell.

Interview her and a few others to find someone who you like. There's no reason that she should be guaranteed a listing... some agents are stronger at listing, some at selling. Good luck.
