What would make a house closing take months and months, if it's not a short sale? My neighbor's house has gone pending multiple times, once for almost 6 months, and keeps ending up back on the market. The 6-month pending, he said something about getting a lawyer, but I just don't know why you'd need one (beyond the standard closing stuff) and I didn't think to ask at the time. Either you're willing to do repairs they ask for or you're not, but it doesn't take months and lawyer to decide. What else could be going on?

It could be title issues which need to be cleared up...or it could be condition issues which the parties fail to agree upon. In either case, there could also be disputes about the return of any earnest money deposit.

Heck, the Buyers could even have discovered something about the neighbors that they don't like.

Sometimes the sale is contingent on the seller buying a home. That doesn't seem like that was the case in this instance though.

...or the Buyer selling a home. Or financing falling through. Lots of potential reasons.
