I'm submitting this thread to see if I can help a friend in Nebraska.
Late spring my friend agreed to have roofers do the roof on their home by agreeing to a bid which was typing his name in a line on a pdf of the bid and sending it back to them. The roofers said kept putting off the project multiple times. They came back in late July to look at the project again and review their bid giving a few new options. They said they'd get started the first week of August. My friend agreed to just part of that new bid but didn't type his name in a document this time.
The roofers showed up and weren't very communicative with my friend. August came and went. So starting in September, my friend assumed they were not interested in the work and so he called other companies.
Then, about a week ago two rough looking guys showed up walking around my friend's house. They were with that original company looking to start the work. My friend said he wasn't interested in them doing the work and was calling new people.
In the meantime he found a new company to do it and signed a real contract with him yesterday.
Today, the original company called and said they wanted to know when they could start work. My friend is now pretty sure this could turn ugly.
What do you think he should do?
He wrote and email to the original roofers outlining the timeline since April that what had happened (or more like, what hadn't happened) and said he had decided to put the work off. He's waiting to hear what they say...
There isn't any start or end dates. Just a very brief and undetailed list of what is to be done. Thank you for your reply. I hope it doesn't turn into any issue for my friend.
Usually bids have a " this bid is good for 30 days from time if submittal. Besides he hasn't paid them anything yet has he? Tell them to buzz off
