Is anyone else experiencing their local MLS website going private?
The local area MLS is now divided into a public section and a private section.
Why is this?
If I understand your question correctly, it is no different than a company having a website with two different sections: One for the public and the "private side" where only members of the company have access.
This is generally to protect information and certainly, the MLS listings can contain some information that the seller might consider confidential - such as their phone numbers, the names of occupants etc.
A couple of days ago, there were over 1500 listings on the MLS website. Today on the new redirect to public access site there are only 1000 listings. The website never had phone numbers, occupants names or any other vital statistic. I just found it curious and wondered if other people have had this same experience, where local MLS listings are becoming harder to access. I don't want to use a realtors website, because most of them require some kind of registration or at the very least an email address.
Whether the site you utilize has now made it clearer that that part you access is the public access may be what you are seeing now.
To give you an example. The Hernando MlS for members is on a completely different website than where the public can access MLS listings but the Citrus MLS has on the same website a public access and a members access.

I agree with the other poster - the MLS has never been "public" - quite the opposite as a matter of fact.
What it sounds like (from your description) is that certain brokers have rescinded their permission for your local newspaper to "capture" and print their listings.
