I was considering buying a house I saw for $35k near Bell & 26th st, but it had SEPTIC and some kind of 'grey water' holes in the backyard for washer and dishwasher outflow. Has anyone seen this before? How much is it to get the city water connected?
It would be city SEWER you want connected not water. Septic is for your wastes.
Septic is free (if it's a gravity system) while connecting to the city for sewer will cost ya every month.
Living with septic isn't bad..I've been doing it for over 12 years now. It's what most folks outside the city limits have.
You can call your local city government and talk to them about sewer hookup.
Now your water..it's either well or private or city hookup.
Water and sewer are 2 different animals and you definitely don't want to confuse them
I live in the country and have a septic system and a grey water system (for the clothes washer). Not only have I had little trouble with them, I've had less trouble than I had with the city system we were on when we lived in Austin.

Maybe we should all guess to see if someone can get the right answer before the OP comes back to confirm.
My first thought was Phoenix.
Although the $35,000 is really throwing me too. Maybe the OP left the first digit off the price?
OK, anyone else want to play?
OP, we passed on a home that was on a septic system once, partly because sewer lines were in the process of being put in when we were looking and negotiations about who was going to pay for what were ongoing. Just didn't seem to be a wise choice without knowing final details of the plan. I wouldn't have a problem with a septic system in general.
$35,000 is probably right. 26th Street and Bell is in Phoenix, AZ and it is a less than desirable area. I would not live in that area if someone gave me a house for free. The area has been known as "the square" for many years and it's kind of "ghetto".
The lowest appraisal I've seen on a little house/shack in Flint, MI was $3,000.
I didn't leave a digit out.
