Does anyone have an actual homegrown family recipe for this? A friend of mine had her grandmother make them for me once, but I've lost touch and they are sooooo good.
As you can see from the history of the dish, it is not necessarily a "true" Romanian dish. I'm not sure how differently Romanians prepare the dish compared to other former Ottoman Empire countries - we serve ours with sour cream and fresh crusty bread, for example. Let me know if the recipe from another country will work for you and I can share.

I guess I don't know the origin, my friend is Romanian. I remember the cabbage being stuffed with rice and ground pork? Kraut was also used in the recipe. Sour cream on the side. I'll try what you have, I ain't skerred.
