I am new to making my smoothies. Here's what I put in it. 1 container of vanilla activia, 1 banana, 2 strawberries, a dash of cinnamon and vanilla extract & ice. I would like to put protein to skip a meal and mango in it but I do not know what to buy. Please advise. Thanks.

I drink smoothies often because I don't eat meat and I, also, like the protein.

In a blender, I put:

1/2 banana (see notes below)
3/4 cup milk
about 1/2 tsp peanut butter
1 scoop vanilla-flavored whey protein powder (I use Wegmans brand)

Mix and enjoy.

Notes:

I only want a milkshake-sized glass, so I use only 3/4 cup milk instead of a full cup. I get a bunch of bananas, already fairly ripe, then slice them in half and place in a baggie. Then I toss that in the freezer. The bananas will eventually turn brown in there, but it doesn't affect their nutritional value or flavor. Also, I just wipe a little peanut butter onto the banana-half, then toss in the blender. That avoids trying to get the dang peanut butter off the side of the blender as it mixes lol.

IMO, that's the perfect blend, as the peanut butter doesn't overwhelm the banana flavor (and vice-versa).

BTW, your's sounds good, too.

I had a smoothie today from a booth at a local flea market/farmer's market/craft fair. It was pretty delicious and the first time I've ever had one with hemp seed in it. They don't add any pre-processed foods, just natural fruit, ice, water, agave nectar and various seeds or kale or spinach. I opted out of the agave, had the banana-strawberry, which is sweet enough without having to add any additional sweetener. The trick is to use over-ripe bananas, where they're a little bit bruised up and somewhat mushy in a few spots. Adding the hemp seed gave it a protein boost, and with these seeds it just gave the overall texture as it it was just more strawberry seeds than usual. No change in taste at all.

Greek yogurt is a great base for smoothies AND is full of protein. There are a ton of recipes out there for greek yogurt smoothies. Also, peanut butter as mentioned above.

This one has both and 28 grams of protein. Sallys Baking Addiction Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie. » Sallys Baking Addiction
