Sigh. There is one time I did this. I acted all flirty (well I don't want to say I was flirting but it would certainly be perceived that way) around a guy because I really did like him, BUT I knew all along that I wasn't going to have a relationship with him, not even friendship. I never did that before, but around him I felt so good--I felt good while he noticed me, talked to me, and I would say any dumb thing just to keep him talking to me. I tried to compliment him a few times but I was too scared to really tell him what I thought or that he would take it the wrong way... I held back but sometimes I expressed myself when I didn't think it would be too far. I thought he would be happy to get attention and compliments (they were sincere and unsolicited!) and just leave it at that. But I was wrong... I knew nothing about this guy; aparently no one "likes" him or even just likes him at all (for good reasons). He thought we would be "more than friends" as he put it. I never wanted to lead him on, insult him, confuse him, or humiliate him but that's what I ended up doing. Part of me still feels extremely guilty and part of me says "oh well he deserved it" because I found out what a jerk he is to everyone.
But I learned from that experience and now I know that in general people don't like to play around like that without any "results" and you can't just give credit where credit is due in most situations, especially complimenting someone's appearance or intelligence.
I'm chatty and kind of a social butterfly, and it seems that anytime I smile or talk to a guy it's considered flirting. I'm not going to be super quiet and only talk to my girlfriends because what I say or do might be misconstrued as leading someone on.
Yes, I've been a stripper and now a bartender/server...I do it all the time but only to a certain extent
