It could certainly work with the right kind of couple with the right kind of personalities. Not very common though.

As I stated earlier, you'll have no problem.

Based on several posts like this, your opposite is more likely to have a problem.

She and I had the same basic conversation we've been having for 22 years. She expresses her point of view while I listen, then I express my point of view while she listens. Then we say, "Oh, well, we'll have to agree to disagree." Then we turn to planning our four day weekend in New Orleans where we'll eat well, toodle around Bourbon Street, and hopefully make lotsa whoopie where the kids can't hear.

I mean, how hard could this possibly be for mature adults?
But it can work out.

People can belong to different political parties or favor different candidates and still have a healthy relationship, of course. It happens all the time. When you're talking about diametrically opposed views, however, I would imagine that your values would be significantly different enough across the board in all areas of life, to the point that you wouldn't be very compatible. Political views correlate to things like education, intelligence, prejudiced views, SES, religion, views on child-raising, hobbies/interests, etc. People at extreme opposite ends of the political spectrum are likely to have significant differences in some or all of those areas which affect day-to-day life far more than how they vote does.

No. Definitely a deal-breaker. My conservatism is a crucial part of my Christian faith. I could never date, much less marry anyone who didn't share those common beliefs.

Actually, I have been a big Ron Paul supporter, but then I went back to GOP.

You realize that Ron Paul is a member of the GOP, right?

well
He's a Republican since he's in that particular party. As for his political views, he's actually a libertarian(or classical liberal) rather than a typical conservative Republican. Most Republicans and Democrats alike are actually centrist style moderates with a slight lean to the left or right.
