It's an attempt to be honest and perhaps a warning as well, but still honest. I wouldn't walk away. Haven't you ever deserved a "second chance""?

Woah.

She wants to be provided for, but not to show faith and commitment. Hmmm... what else is new?

I think she is honest to warn him... that she is going to stab him in the heart eventually. Commitment and faith doesn't come easy nor is it popular. You can tell what a person really believes in based on what they do, not what they say. So far, her track record sucks. Why hasn't she tried steering away from deploying military dudes? Just sayin'.

I personally am not going to date an active duty military man. I respect military service people TOO much to date them. I know I cannot handle the long distance relationship, I know I cannot handle the stress. Being a Marine sister almost cost my sanity, been there, done that, that part of my life is definitely over. Thanks God for that. I've spent six years of my life worrying about my brother, I don't want to spend rest of my life worrying about a boyfriend or a husband.

I belong to a Military forum/blog. I've met a lot of military family members there. People who don't have loved ones serving in the military will never understand what we have been through. I have intense hatred towards women who take advantage of service men for their very little benefits. I have even more intense hatred toward those who bash military service men and women for personal reasons or no reasons at all. These people are f*cking clueless and heartless.

I personally think you should find out if this girl is the type who uses military boys for money. I hope she is not, otherwise, she wouldn't be so honest about her past experience.

I think she deserves a second chance, since she was honest and also admitted that she learned her lesson.

We don't know how much time has passed and how old the girl is. Maybe she was very young when that happened.

If I would have met my ex in my early 20's and he would have gotten deployed for 9 or more months, I am not sure if I could have stayed faithful. But I married when I was 29 and was ready to settle down. Not even once I thought about cheating when he was gone, fighting for his country.

She "sounds" very sweet and genuine? Does he actually know this person or is she an internet penpal?

Wait, so it's understandable to cheat if you're young? What hogwash!

My daughter has been married for 4 years, to a soldier who is an IED sniffer in Kandahar right now. He has been deployed twice, they've been together less time than he's been away. She is only 23.

Age has nothing to do with it. Morals is where's it's at.

And with this chick coming out & admitting what she did (and she learned what lesson exactly? That she should have married the guy instead?), only tells me she's smart enough to know what you want to hear, when in reality she will screw him over just like the last one.

wierd, my experience is girlfriends can't get very many "military benefits" just from dating a GI. the cheating disclosure part is different and is probably more important than her supposed motive to bein in a relationshp with her ex-bf.

and as for any other thoughts about your hypothetical, here it is: most GI's will take a leg anyway they can get it and worry about any LTR potential later. so not so sure about this GI "wondering" if she can be trusted. The reality is that when dating a service member, most women know he will be departing in the near future so you either accept it for what it is or see if there is any long term potential you can cultivate within a short window and hang on too it thereafter.
