I support my pookie in the work he does but lol I dread the office party his company has every year.
It normally at a decent restaurant and it usually the worker and their partners but ugh I do know these people that well for good conversation.
Sometimes what makes it worst is that they will talk about things that happen at work and of course not being there I cannot relate.
I know I am not alone since I see the other partners or dates sitting there just observing like I am but what can one who is outisder of a sort to do to make it more interesting?
I could see how that would be uncomfortable. Talk to your husband and see if he can help change the subject or even outright suggest to some of his colleagues that they try and keep the work chattle to a minimum. There's nothing more boring than having to listen to somebody tell war stories from work and you have no idea what they are talking about. Good luck..
Sunny I can relate, I've been introduced around by my wife at these parties then she leaves me at the table while shes "networking" and it can be rather dull, there are usually 2 or 3 people that get plastered and act like idiots that keep me amused for 15 or 20 minutes but after I get my fill of that and some shrimp off the cold bar i'm looking at my watch.
My husband just called and said "they" needed to know if we are coming to the Christmas party Friday night. I said "no", because they all sit around talking about work, and laughing at inside jokes that some of us have no idea about. Like you Sunny, we are at a restaurant, so it makes for a long evening of just sitting there, not saying a word. If you try to change the subject, it gets right back to discussing work. I don't enjoy it and my husband and his co workers go out to eat lunch together every day, so he doesn't mind.

How do you handle thexe events ?
I don't go to them. Just say "we had other plans for that evening" or "my wife was not feeling well so we just stayed home".
It is normally at a family restaurant and the county it is located in is dry so there will be no watching others get drunk.
I was just called and asked if I would join them and they said it would mean alot to them if I went. (the things you do for love). They have to be there since they are in management.
Im watching Comedy Central and reading John off the wall news threads in Other Topics for quick conversation.
Thanks for the tidbits.
