Women aren't the only ones who are picky. I'm a man and I'm picky as hell. I'm not approaching every woman I see.

If we apply a market-analogy to dating, then whoever is in a position of least need, or with appearance of least need, has the advantage in negotiation. Perhaps the mere mechanical act of being seated confers a psychological advantage; the parties moving around have the appearance of needing to maneuver to ply their suit, whereas those remaining seated have the appearance of implacable stability.
