I notice a lot of support for condom use in Relationships and who can argue with that. I don't see much mention of female condoms. Is it the cost of them? Their design? What? I mean, let's admit it. Male condoms are considered by both men and women to be a necessary evil. I don't know any man who actually likes them and women are mainly indifferent about them. This might be why they give in and allow guys to talk them out of using a male condom and we know where that can lead. I actually find female condoms to be not that bad and those were the first generation design. As I understand it they have been improved and are on the market again. Thoughts?
Mod note: Please read Post #30 before you post on this thread. Thanks.
Somebody on this board likened sex with a condom to trying to eat a steak inside a Ziploc bag. I've never used a female condom. It seems more difficult to use for P/V sex than a male condom. If they are very thin, manual stimulation might be OK, but Mod cut.

I found female condoms too intrusive in the whole sexual experience... sloppy I think many guys like Mod cut. ..... male condoms are pretty much put it on and go.

The beauty of female condoms is they don't really have to be ultra-thin to work. That makes them immune to breaking. Male condoms, thin as they are, are still way too thick and that's why men hate them. When the material moves with you it better be as thin as modern materials science can make it. nd it will be fragile and prone to breakage. [Snip.]

For one thing they're expensive! On Amazon, 10 for $22!!!!! Or, 100 for $144!
And I don't think there's much selection...there are hundreds of brands and varieties for guys.
Birth control pills are $5 each and you need to take one every single day whether you are having sex that day or not. Those prices for female condoms don't seem that high. Have you priced male condoms? And male condoms are heavily subsidized. Most people don't pay for them at all. If female condoms were supported as a viable alternative the prices would drop. An IUD good for a couple of years costs over $1000. As for selection... that is really an answer to a question no one asked. There really is only one kind of male condom... an awful one.

I personally don't consider birth control methods that don't isolate fluids as an effective option. Pills for example require the woman to take the initiative, don't protect against the same number of STDs, not as accessible (prescription required), and take the control away from the man. For those that may have multiple sexual partners in a short time period, they are also much less hygienic. In my past, I had many sexual partners... I can never be sure that they are on birth control and taking them religiously? not to mention STDs. Condoms allow me to take control of my choices.
I'm not a woman but it wouldn't also be the first time one has told me that pills have some side-effects that they don't necessarily care for.
As for price, heavily subsidization or not.. the end cost is a major factor. It contributes to accessibility which is HIGHLY important to society. This is part of the reason NYC has a program to make them even MORE accessible.. .free. I know more than one woman who is walking around with those in their purse. Oh by the way, the same NYC program also provides access to female condoms.. I have yet to see NYC branded one in the wild.
I consider it the price of playing the game.
btw... thanks for creating this topic instead of hyjaking the other thread. ITs a good one.

That's not expensive. It's close to what a decent condom will run.
Sure, you can get a dozen for $10-12 bucks (or even free), but they'll feel like it.
