I broke up with my boyfriend today. He has bought me a couple of expensive gifts ($500) for the upcoming Christmas that are currently under the Christmas tree. I have not opened them but know what's inside. Is it ok to return them to him or is that considered rude?

I think I would....

Technically haven't been "gifted yet" as they are for "upcoming" Christmas.
They are expensive gifts.
You broke up with him.

I guess it really depends on the situation... was the break up amicable?

He still wants to be in the relationship and I do not although I still like and respect him.

Give them back. He gave them to you because you were in a relationship. You're not now. Give them back.

Do whatever you feel is right, OP. Personally, I would be offended if my ex girlfriend returned Christmas gifts. But that's just me.

Gifts go back. Just ran into this with my daughter who wanted to keep the stuff. Guy had put some serious cash in the jewelry. She did give it back. Just the decent thing to do.
