My German daughter-in-law wore her wedding band on her right hand, while her husband, my son, wore, and still wears his on the left.
When I queried this, he said, "Dad, I'm proud to be a German citizen now, but I was completely English for 22 years, old habits die hard."
His mother, my ex-wife, asked Anke about it too, but she was merely being curious, not judgemental at all.
Anke replied like my son, that was the done thing in Germany, but to compromise, she said that she'd switch ring fingers when she was in the U.K.
It materialised that her left ring finger was marginally smaller than her right, so my kid bought her another one just to wear whenever they came over.
Both my boys are free-spending with their wives and kids, I never raised no cheapskates.
