Malcolm Applegate, 62, went to extreme measures to get out of what he describes as a “controlling” relationship.

Applegate left his wife for the woods one day without telling anyone and lived there for five years, staying hidden for a total of 10.

Wow...he apparently has almost zero relationship or communication skills at the most basic level. His solution for feeling stifled by his wife who complained about his long hours gardening was to.... run away and hide in the woods like the mafia was after him... instead of being assertive and communicating his needs to her and being firm in his right to do gardening.

His sister thought he was dead. Didn't the wife presume he was dead too after all that time? No manhunt?

She was not amused.

I've known a few women who could drive a man to this.

This is funny, but man what a selfish thing to do. His poor sister spent all that time looking for him and grieving because he couldn't warn someone he was going off the grid?
