I received a cross-country job offer back in 2012. I moved from TN to IA and moved my POF location to my new Iowa location. I started talking to a girl before I got there.
We hit it off from day 1. She was just 20 and I was 26. She practically moved her stuff in during the first month. I moved back to Tennessee after a year. If I had stayed there, we might still be together, and we still keep in touch.
My wife and I lived 70 miles apart for the almost 2 years we dated and for the first 6 years we were married. We both had jobs where we couldn't move, plus I wanted to stick close to my kids, living with their mother, and she was living with, and taking care of her semi invalid mother. But what we think helped things work for us was our age. I was 44 and she was 49 when we met, after talking through a free dating web site. If we had been younger, and this our first relationship (both had two marriages behind us) we don't think we would have stayed together. But we alternated staying with each other on weekends and occassionally met for dinner at a "halfway point" between us, and possibly get a hotel room and both go to work from there. When I retired in 2008, I moved in with her and everything has been great
It can, and will, work, if you want it to. That's the main thing right there. She would call me crying some mornings that she didn't know how much longer she could take being that far apart. But with a little talking, she'd settle down and agree with how we were doing things. We'll be married 17 years this December, but marriage was one thing neither one of us was thinking about when we met.
When I met my sweetums, we lived about 90 min apart. That's not huge, but my schedule was packed (full-time job, part-time student, 13 year old at home) and I only had so much free time available for dating. The commute really ate into my available time.
We dated long-distance for about 4 years, then he sold his house and moved in with me. We lived there together for about 4 years, then a year ago we moved about 3 hours away to some mountain timber property he owns. It is just the two of us now, my 22 year old is independent.
We are very happy together, and have been all along. When someone is right for you, things just fall into place.
Vacation time for me is coming and that means seeing my buddy time.
