Yeah the best way is to Google it or join Meetup.com. Those are the two places I found the Speed dating in my area
Meetup is actually cracking down on that. They don't want people to think of them as a dating service, which is already happening to an extent. On top of that, many dating services took to using Meetup as their advertising soundboard. Which goes against Meetup's mission statement and original purpose: a social group/event organization site.
You probably found the events before Meetup started the crackdown.
I actually thought speed dating had played out already. I didn't know people were still doing that, just never ever hear people talking about that form of dating anymore.

Yep. They are supposedly no longer allowing dating oriented groups as once people meet someone, they have achieved their objective and no longer RSVP for events - and the two metrics that they rely on to show their investors are new joins and RSVPs. However, some organizers are still getting away with dating groups by using creative wording. They are cracking down on a couple of areas of photography groups too. I can only speak for this area, of course, but I've been an organizer for almost 8 years now and I see Meetup as a sinking ship compared to what it was a few years ago.
As for speed dating companies, I prefer Date Switch to some of the others this area has offered.

What areas? I see a few that are uh, well, on the racy side of photography. Seemed weird for a meetup. on a few, it actually looks like a private photographer was using meetup to make a living with the "fees" being requested. It didn't seem to fit.
