The reason why I ask because many of the guys that live in the shelter that I manage have girlfriends. I just want to know how do you manage to have a successful relationship..........?
I've worked with the homeless a good bit, too. That being said, I can't imagine a sane woman wanting to be a relationship with them. I really want to be compassionate here, but the homeless are that way for pretty good reasons. An ongoing inability to make good decisions, bad relationships with their support network of friends and family, etc. etc. Those don't make them bad people per se, but it sure makes them hellish people to have a relationship with.
Absolutely true! You can add teachers, too. You know your stuff, Opti, dontcha...?
Everytime I was hospitolized after a suicide attempt a nurse briefly fell in love with me! Argue with the doctor, you name it. I was a train wreck! And their picking up debris and saying to themselves "you know i can fix this and get it running again"

Not surprised at all! If you go on an NPD board, probably more than half of the women (usually the prey) work in health care or education. It's a curse having these traits. The men's professions are quite repetitive, too - engineers, lawyers, firefighters, cops, any other military or law enforcement position.
I've frankly given up on personality disorders. Every book describing male/female relations sounds the same, no matter what terms are being used. Whether you call it NPD/BPD, vampire/victim, or man/woman doesn't make much of a difference to me anymore.
