To the OP, it sounds like the guy needs professional help. Wouldn't want him to go on a shooting spree like at the gym or something. My suggestion is to introduce him to a dating coach or perhaps give him a copy of The Game. Self-improvement is what he needs. The guy sounds completely socially awkward.

The studies I've seen are A) newer and B) totally flip the trends you cite placing men in the 30 to 40% and women in the 50 (or was it 60?) to 80%. Hell, paternity fraud studies are finding that up to 30% of women are having other men's kids (it's a solid 33% when cheating by the woman was suspected). The studies putting them well over 50% stand to reason since there's a ton of women who don't get preggers from their infidelity. Scaling up makes a ton of sense and the numbers I've seen support it.
I definitely think the trend is that women are becoming big cheaters, too.

I had a girl friend cheat on me when I took the advice to be trusting and supporting of my woman no matter what she wanted. I was the new sensitive man. I even worked on her car when she had dinner to catch up with her ex-boy friend. My trust was absolute. The is what naive` 19 year olds do. Some never learn, but I never make the same mistake twice. I never cheated nor did I leave an opportunity for married women to cheat with me when I was single.
