Everyone has conditions. You beat a dog it will run away if it can. I don't feed my cat on time and I get bitten! (not a real one but what a cheeky monkey he is)
Anything can be pushed to its conditional limits.
I always think of the child/parent bond. I never though myself I would snap that thing in two but I just hit my limit and like a switch I went to robot mode and really could give a care less about them.

I have to say in my case this has proven to be true. I never cease to be amazed at how much my parents love me regardless of. . . well, anything.
