The 7-day Jewish Biblical Festival of Sukkot (soo-KOHT, Lev. 23:33-43) will begin on the 15th day of the month of Tishrei, which this year begins at sunset on Wednesday, September 22 on the civil calendar, and commemorates the forty-year period following the Exodus from Egypt during which the children of Israel were wandering in the desert, living in temporary shelters (the Christian version of this Jewish Biblical Festival is called Tabernacles).
Ah , I miss the times when we just used a shadow from the tall rock to gather at a specific time.
So we could talk about the best way to skin a mammoth. And good roots to use to weave a waterproof basket.
Now the shadow on the ground means we must gather to listen to that guy tell us there is a god that pushes the sun around. And to give him food and drink and trade items so he does not have to hunt and gather like the rest of us.
Oh yes, I do miss the good old days when the sun and moon were just there to tell us the seasons.
