Melvin Thompson, who actually submitted the proposal to the church, defended his position, and says he doesn't feel this will affect the Gulnare Freewill Baptist Church at all. "I do not believe in interracial marraiges, and I do not believe this will give our church a black eye at all.... Church Bans Interracial Marriage - CNN iReport
Religion is the tie that binds stone age and bronze age ignorance to the ignorance that exists today.
If I remember correctly, you are black. I am also angered by this display of these people ignorance based hated primarily for the ignorance based hatred in induces into society as a whole.
I'm not gay, I'm not black, I'm not a woman, but the behavior of religious people toward any of these groups engages me for the shear ignorance it demonstrates, and their excuse, a loving god??????? give me a fricking break
However I am an atheist, and when these ignorant sub-humans direct their anger and hate at me, it makes my heart soar . There are also those that would tell me it is a choice (unlike gender, skin color, sexual preference) I will also tell them that is is NOT a choice, for I cannot force myself to be that stupid.

You are correct. I am black, my wife is white, and I used to live in Eastern Kentucky (about an 1 1/2 hours north of Pike county where this took place). I can remember clearly some of my times out that way. This brings back memories; this is personal. Part of me wants to make a trip back "home" to attend services this Sunday at that church (with the wife by my side). Then again, I don't want us to get hurt either. Anyways, this is wrong on soooooo many levels. Like I said, this particular location (Eastern Kentucky) makes it personal for me.
No church has to perform a marriage they don't want to.
If they want to make themselves look like *******s, that's their prerogative.
I can agree on that.
There is no Biblical basis for that. They are Freewill Baptist...which to be honest, isn't exactly known for being a tremendously deeply theological denomination.
Please don't think we're all like that.

Yes, I can believe in God and still think this is abhorrent.
