Most of the time they feel the need to convert just by being an annoying pain the ass, but sometimes entire nations feel the need to convert other nations, this is done via the sword. Christianity would have never survived if not for the sword of Constantine. Islam has spread primarily through the sword.

Explain to me how religion has made mankind, as a whole, worse. Also explain to me how fanatics can be assumed to be a majority in religions?

It appears I am the only one on here who is not by nature a nice person. Interesting.

Yes, my religion does help me be a better person. I listen and learn and I pray that I become a better person and that I overcome the negativity and anger that comes to me naturally.

In my view, this is the majority reaction to religion, both now and throughout human history! And I would like to see proof that this reaction is not, or has not been the majority reaction .

No. My daZe in woodumb made me an idiot wrt my family. As a basic person, I did not change other than by my own will and doing. I was not really a bad person to start off with but somehow my indoctrination kicked in and I bought into the concept I was worthless and in need of redemption.

Fortunately I got out (came to me senses) and was able to make restoration where it mattered, with my family. My kids will grow up to be good atheists and will pass that onto their kids one day.

I agree those aspects are out there for anyone and everyone. They just happened to come to me (some not all) through my religious teachings and my religious beliefs. I disagree with the other posted you referred to.

We all need to learn what we learn somewhere. Some of us learn it from our religion. Some of us learn it from our parents. Some of us learn it from a respected adult, or other influences.

I am sure you know that the answer to this questions is a lot more complex than most think.

"Which came first the chicken or the egg" comes to my mind...

Am I who I am because of what I learned through religion? Or do I interpret religion the way I do because I am who I am? I realy don't know the answer to the question. Regardless of the answer to this particular question. I still stand by my answer to the question in the OP.

I like this.
But I would view things a little differently for myself.

I am who I am because of religion and because of other things that I've learned in life that came to me from other sources besides religion.

Aren't we all who we are because of ALL of our experiences? Religious and non-religious?

And I am sure you are not alone, yet many theists say that all they are is solely from their religion, and that is downright scary.

Ashe, I realy don't mean this in a bad way. Maybe you need to get the heck out of the Bible Belt! I think maybe you'd feel a little differently about religious people if you lives somewhere else?
