Reminiscent of
  • Nietzsche's philosophy of the "Will to Power",
  • evolved by Aleister Crowley's Thelemic "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law",
  • elaborated by Anton Lavey's "Satanism encourages its followers to indulge in their natural desires. Only by doing so can you be a completely satisfied person with no frustrations which can be harmful to yourself and others around you. Therefore, the most simplified description of the Satanic belief is: indulgence instead of abstinence".
It's good to see the classics revived!

I see no resemblances to the occult or the power hungry. Not sure how you can suggest this from the construct presented.

Nietzsche's "will to power" concerned the goal of a person to do what he felt best for himself, without obeying another's moral expectations, and thus crafting for himself his own "will to power" - and not necessarily power as violence. More of an idea that one's will is forced upon the world. Of course, this does not take into consideration the feelings of others - but it does boil down to a system of secular humanistic ethics that is not beholden to any religious system. As a matter of course, harming ones self would be out of the question.

Aleister Crowley's maxim of "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law" took the philosophy of Nietzsche and its humanistic outlook in rejecting traditional religious values and morals and applied it as THE law - or similar to how you phrased it "Forget the ten, you only need [one]". Still, what is missing is the part of not harming others. The occult has no bearing on the above philosophy.

Crowley and Lavey were both pretty vocal about the non-necessity of the ritualistic side of their teachings. Lavey stated that Satan did not even exist, but that he used the trappings of ritual to make humanism more attractive to people. And it worked. Lavey added the provisio that one should do what one wants, and not harm others.

I dunno. Pretty similar to what you're saying!

"Only [one/two] law(s): Do what you want, as long as you don't hurt yourself or others"
VS
"Only [one/two] law(s): Do what makes you feel good, as long as you don't hurt yourself or others".

Hedonism, of course, teaches that pleasure is the "whole of the law", so to speak - so one really is giving in to one's will. If we really wanted to throw another philosopher into the mix of influences, we could add Aristippus of Cyrene, who taught the same basic thing. I'm sure his teacher Socrates would have disagreed, but hey! One of them drank the hemlock and the other didn't heh heh!

"Enlightened self interest" is an interesting concept. Part of "what feels good" has to be the expected consequences. The real problem the "religious" have here is that there is no "revealed" set of rules to impose on others, and that is exactly what Jesus taught: Love is to be the basis for actions, not rules.

So voyeurism is acceptable as long as you don't get caught? Got it.
