Father Pio is the probably the most famous of Catholic priests. He was affected by stigmata, the mystical appearance of the wounds similar to Christ's, for 50 years until just before his death in 1968.
After much investigation and documentation about his life, he was made a Catholic Saint in 2002.
If you are interested in knowing more about him, check out some of the links. None of them provide every comprehensive detail, so it takes a little reading & digging to learn about his entire story.
He not only performed real miracles, but his Priesthood was a testament to the mystery of God's blessings.

Sun....I've been to Padre Pio's place in San Giovanni, Italy many years ago. He was an extraordinary man and priest and is a powerful intercessor......he was known not to "mince words"....he wasn't exactly always "warm and fuzzy", but he was an incredible servant of God.

Okay....I've got to tell a personal story relating to an experience w/ Padre Pio. I know it sounds a little strange....but, here goes.

Years ago when dh and I were coming back to the catholic church, we attended a prayer conference. At that conference there were many tables of organizations that had spiritual and catholic books, tapes available.

About a week before attending this confernce, an acquaintence was telling us about Padre Pio, whom we had never heard of before.

At the confernce, there was one table which had a booklet titled "Padre Pio Counsels".....Dh saw it, picked it up and immediately had the scent of roses which lasted about a half an hour.

I know it sounds goofy, but after that dh got the booklet and started on a journey which would lead him to a develop a wonderful relationship w/ Padre Pio.

That's actually why we felt compelled to visit his place in Italy becasue dh had such a devotion to him. During our visit to his church in San Gionvanni, when going to the choir loft, dh had once again experienced the same scent of roses which he had years earlier at the conference.

I smelt the scent of roses too.. Only I didn't know it was related to him; I was in tan Giovanni rotondo near padre pio 's church.. Suddenly in the air I smelt roses..but there weren't any roses.. It was like this perfume was inside me..and not on the exterior..than I asked my mother where are the roses? She: where the roses? There aren't roses.

Then times after at my home when I read online that the smell of roses is a sign that padre pio is near you I understood.

Also I ve got the grace to see him. He appeared to me one night.
