A few years ago an acquaintance who is an atheist was really sick and in the hospital.

1) Please have some of your friends pray for me.

His Wife said
2) But Jerry, you don't believe in God.

That's why he didn't pray himself. He used a proxy. In his conscience then, his ego is happy, he didn't betray his faith and, he utilized a possibility provided by others.

This is very significant. Gives real value to all the atheists talk. When reality comes and The Great Equalizer taps you on your shoulder, 99.9% of them will jump onto "god please help" opportunity.
Not surprisingly, the very moment that happens and they get well, they will renounce god just as easily.

This is neither believable nor funny.

You people must be getting desperate. Playing the 'really believe deep down inside' package (incorporating 'recan on deathbed and No atheists in foxholes'.

Even in this was true, and not (more probably) the wishful thinking of Believers (the OP anecdote was no more convincing than it was funny) it would only explain one of the reasons why humans invented a god. It doesn't do a single solitary thing to make the belief true.

I can assure you that it is true and I don't care if you think it is funny or not. Maybe you are used to making up stories which is why you were so quick to call me a liar, I personally have no reason to lie.

You are correct. Jerry is alive and well and back to his former self.

I wonder if he let the doctor say a prayer before examining or doing a procedure on him?
