God forgave us by sacrificing his own life, so that, we, who betrayed him may have peace and joy for all eternity. He told us that if we love him we would keep his commandments by loving one another as he has loved us.
Therefore, do we love God, if we:
1) refuse to forgive others as God forgave us?
2) have hate, greed, revenge, pride and lust in our heart?
3) refuse to sacrifice our own interest in order to bring healing to those who hurt and betray us?
4) refuse to stay faithful to our marriage covenant when there is hurt and betrayal?

I wouldn't put too much stock in the "sacrificing his own life" thing. Per the Bible, you god made the rules, he decided on the punishment, he didn't lose his life. So, basically, he gave his own life to sacrifice to himself, to atone for the sins he set Adam up to commit. And, he knew from the beginning that this would happen. I wouldn't feel to guilty for "betraying" him, if I were you since he supposedly expects it.
The solution is to treat others as you would want to be treated, and everything will be fine.

We can do all the socially praiseworthy things suggested without believing in a god just as much as those who supposedly do signally show signs of not being able to do so.
God forgave us for..what? Our ancestors eating an apple that God brutally obviously intended should be eaten? Betrayed? By who? One Jew who was carrying out God's plan after all? God set all of this stuff up and then we are supposed to be the guilty party?
Further, God sacrificed nothing. His son, spirit or himself in human form (whatever one believes) was up and about a few days later (the same day if one believes Luke 23 43) with a few Hollywood effect wounds for identification purposes. It's even doubted whether God's son even felt any pain.
If this god loved us, he would do us all a favour by not existing, because He has brought nothing but pain, the sword, intolerance, dissent, persecution, torture, resentment, ignorance, bigotry, warfare and embattled resistance to social progress.

The Christian God does not forgive us unless we first ask to be forgiven and repent. However, he requires us to forgive others unconditionally.
I'm guessing the OP is the one that appears to have an issue with divorce. I know there was a similar post that talked about unconditional love. Those that want unconditional love are usually those that realize how flawed they are and have no intention of making any changes. If you hurt and betray me, don't get in line for your "unconditional" love - run for your life!!! Plus, God did not forgive us as according to God's laws, there are consequences for our actions. God gave us freewill but let it be known that one's choices could carry dire consequences.
I have theory... ..people don't understand Love. It should be about duty and what you can do for the beloved...too often it is about what is expected from others, what their duty is perceived to be and..when it fails to come up to required standard, it can vanish like martian hoarfrost.
