Tokyo, Japan (CNN) -- The Buddhist religion has largely remained the same over the past few centuries, but a group of monks in Japan are spicing things up by turning to alcohol and rap music to lure in followers.

The monks are calling it Buddhism 2010.

Every idea needs to be sold as the social world is always in flux and ideas come and go; dialectically, all that you think is true today will be untrue sometime in the future, maybe after you are fertilizing something with your corpse, but it will all change. Even a non capitalist idea like commies-ism need to be sold or if one becomes impatient one can just shoot people. Like an old reformer remarked once, if one can be argued into something, one can be argued out of it and our dear philosopher friend (I am on a philosophy thread, right?) Nietzsche said something to the effect that a smart man eventually thinks his way out of a thought (I assume he even meant his own, wait, the post moderns liked him, maybe there is a point at which one is not allowed to deconstruct, well, as the utilitarians said, the truth is what works for us-be that as it may). Well anyway, good for them, but they will need to keep the goodies comin to buy off the new followers: followers are always expensive.

It's true. Today it's alcohol and rap. When these new adherents see which way the wind is blowing, they'll realize they can hold out for more. So what's next?

Well, Burger King is planning to offer beer (Burger King plans beer-selling Whopper Bar in South Beach - USATODAY.com) and others are expected to follow. Maybe, some religions may follow the same "happy" trend ..... So, you may be able to buy alcohol on a Sunday before noon in TX! Praise the lord (in advance)!
