In the five prime months May-Sep you'll see decent crowds. In the rest of the year there will be nights where you will see more employees than customers around. Virginia St becomes eerily scary around 10pm on Tuesday or Wednesday nights in the offseason with just panhandlers and religious "freaks" out.

Probably the most popular are the three hotel/casinos in the downtown area that take up three blocks and are connected to each other with walkways over the streets - El Dorado, Silver Legacy and Circus-Circus
Reno Hotels: Welcome to The Eldorado Hotel Casino in Downtown Reno
Reno Hotels: Welcome to Silver Legacy Reno, a Luxury Nevada Casino Resort Destination
www.circusreno.com

Within a short walk of these places, there are other casinos such as Harrahs Harrah's Reno ,Cal-Neva Hotel and Casino - The Club Cal Neva, Reno's Best Bet and the Sands Regency Terrible's Sands Regency Casino Hotel - Downtown Reno - Gaming - Dining - Entertainment - Ski - Golf - Specials - Promotions - Deals - Rooms - Pool - Spa and more.

Have fun

It's not DEAD! People still go there. It's slow during the winter months, but picks up during the rest of the year.

Now, if gas goes up to $5+ this summer, Reno will probably be dead or near dead.

It depends on the casinos. Some casinos get a good local crowd all week long, while others cater to tourists and you get big crowds Friday thru Sunday. Harrahs, Silver Legacy, Eldorado, and Circus cater to tourists. CalNeva, Sands, Atlantis, Peppermill, Grand Sierra, and Nugget in Sparks cater to both tourists and locals. Dotty's caters to locals strictly but you need some wierd membership deal to get in. The smaller ones tend to cater to locals like Baldini's in Sparks or Tamarack Junction or Bonanza. The best depends on what you're looking for. Atlantis and Peppermill get rated best customer service and locals tend to like them a lot and hence they're growing even in this bad economy. Circus is a dump. Silver Legacy has a great nightlife with lots of young hotties. CalNeva has some really hot, scantily clad dealers as well as Harrahs.
