Hi All, moving from Orange County, CA with hubby and son to Reno area. I am a mortgage loan officer and can work from home and hubby would work for a local car dealership. My concern is for our son who is 19 and pretty much self sufficient except he does not drive. We would need to live in an area where he can walk bike or take public transportation to most places including university. He loves movies, plays and other artsy things. He is very friendly and needs to be a part of a community of other young people who would embrace his quirkieness. We would rent a place while looking around to purchase. Any ideas for us would be helpful. Any autism groups for young adults in the area?

The bus system here is pretty comprehensive. It's known as the RTC (Regional Transportation Commission) and in addition to the city buses they also have a transport system (RTC Access) for the disabled if they need to get to a medical appointment or whatever.

Regional Transportation Commission

County social services is probably a good starting place for disabled adult services. At least they would know the resources.

Check the address where you are thinking about living. I lived in SW Reno and was appalled to find out that the nearest bus stop was 3.2 miles from me. It's much better close to town and I have seen a lot of buses in the North Valley/Stead area but it was dismal where I was at.
