We are renting a home from a private owner, so far he has been pretty good about fixing things in a timely manner, well sorta. Last weekend I found a leak underneath the sink from the garbage disposal, so I called. He came by about 2 hrs later, tried to replace some pipes but it was still leaking, so he looked closer and said that the disposal was rotting out, that he would be back today (Sat) and replace the whole unit. So this morning he calls while I gone and tells my son he won't be coming today and he will call me back when he can. I am trying to be patient and understanding, when he left last weekend he told me to put a bowl under there to catch the water until he could get back this weekend. So how patient am I supposed to be with him? I have to be careful how much water I let run down there and while the bowl catches the majority of it some still drips.
It is not unreasonable for him to take a few days to get something fixed, especially if you are still able to use most of the house and its facilities.
It's not unusual, but I would certainly like him to give an estimated time of completion. It's already been a week. I would say it definitely needs to be taken care of by the end of the weekend. Beyond a week is unnecessary.
The reason I asked for the reason he said he wouldn't be coming would be if, say, a part (or the whole device) was on order and hadn't come in yet, or if it was something unrelated causing the delay.

He didn't say just that he couldn't come today and would call me when he could come.
Do you have a double sink? If so, use the other side until it's repaired.
I do have a double sink and have been using it but when I need to wash dishes it can get complicated. Oh well as least I can use the sink, I suppose it could be worse and not be able to use the sink at all.

A few days would be okay but it has been a week today, and now no repair date that I know of.
