are both fans cooling fans supposed to go on or just one,it seems to cooling down with one. the fan doesnt stay on that long.but so so go. its been more reliable than my licon so far.
I thought the mechanic said it checked out if you are having overheating issues that's bad because you are now putting money into a car you paid $1700 for it's not even worth it as long as you know what ever you put into the car for reapirs you will never get it back in re-sale
one fan turns on when the car gets warm the other one turns on only when the ac is turned on. that is normal. the only problem i have had is the regulator on the cooling fan going out. other than that. the cooling system works well.
I have a 95 and love the car. I drive it daily 122 miles round trip to work. 33 miles to the gallon. the only thing i have done to the car is upgrade the turbo and put some new valves in the car. the only reason the valves had to be replaced is because of the previous owner. basically over-rev is what caused the valves to bend enough to lose compression. if you can get a straight bodied, clean engine bay talon or eclipse honestly you will be miles ahead, very pleased, and impressed. as said earlier...the car can do low 14's on the track but low 14's and run 33mpg. i dont think you can go wrong.
Nice cars that year of the Eclipse/Talon, well built cars with nice interior materials and build quality, but I think headgasket and valve seals were issues on certain engines... this may have already been mentioned. If that checks out, sounds like a good deal. Good luck!
EDIT - just realized this is an old thread - three years old and I posted on it last year almost a year ago - it keeps coming back... lol.

Bulls*#t. I'm so f'king tired of the bulls*#t MPG claims in this forum.
Been there. Done that. Had a TSi. Nice car and all... but never achieved 33mpg. 28 on a really good day and with a really light foot on the gas pedal.... maybe. And that was with a bone stock example, never mind one capable of low 14s. Nor mind the fact that this thread is 3 years old and no longer relevant to the OP.
I believe some of these were notorious for oil burning... depending on the engine.
I have/had three Mitsubishi 4G63 powered vehicles and never had a problem with excess oil consumption, but it all depends on how modded and how you run it. A turbo car needs more attention, so a bad turbo with bad seals can also be a source for oil burning that might be falsely attributed to the engine. Maybe the Chrysler 420A that is found in the non turbo cars from 95-99 is notorious for that, but I am not familiar with that engine.
In short, these cars are cheap to buy but expensive to maintain and own. A lot of them are hacked up with cheap mods and blown up by people with poor judgement. So it's not the best car for a beginner with a limited knowledge and budget to jump in to.
