Well I succeeded in creating the poll. If your reason for having moved or planning to move is not listed, please discuss it in a post. I tried to think of the most common reasons people relocate in retirement. I voted that I stayed put, as I love it here in Los Angeles.
Oops. I typed the word "poll" into the thread title, not realizing that when we create a poll, the software automatically adds "poll" in front of the thread title. Didn't want you to think I'm retarded. Oh, I forgot, that's been obvious for a long time - too late for me to hide the fact now.

Stayed put. We love where we live and have no motivation to go anywhere. Our house is paid for, there are no children or grandchildren to consider, and our income is sufficient to let us live the same lifestyle we had when we were working. The only reason we might move would be if if driving or climbing stairs became an issue. Then we would try to find a condo or other suitable living arrangement either in San Francisco or nearby. I grew up in the Bay Area, it's always been home to me, and I never want to leave.
Moved! Combination of:
1) didn't like where we were anymore;
2) wanted to maximize our retirement dollars;
3) missed four distinct seasons; and,
4) wished to return to a culture we enjoyed and embraced.
Staying....Regardless of any post-retirement epiphanies we may have about what we want. Simply because the homeplace is PAID FOR..... (and, the children & grandchildren & extended family are here).
I moved from the bay area, because to retire at such a young age I couldn't afford to stay. It should also be noted that when I was born there was 4000 people, and almost 100,000 when we left in Pleasanton. Quality of life is much nicer here in Northern Nevada, and I just love it!
I moved but not very far, within my own state. To get away from sadness of family deaths and there is no one left out there anymore, to start anew, to get a somewhat better climate and to live by the ocean. Also, one floor living and tiny yard to care for.
Still struggling with this decision. We are looking for a situation that will mean low yard maintenance and no stairs to accommodate for hubby's changing health needs.
We have been looking for the right situation for four years and just can't put it together. At this stage, we have eliminated moving out of state, so the plan now is to find a patio home or villa in NC. We do not want to be in a 55+ community and that seems to be the only type of community that meets our needs. Condos and townhomes are not uncommon here, but patio homes and villas are.
The search continues!
