Yesterday I received my 2014 Medicare Advantage Plan renewal information in the mail. The increases were relatively mild for the most part, much to my relief. The question mark in the thread title is meant to convey that other plans in other parts of the country may have different results. Anyone interested in details can check my thread in the Health Insurance sub-forum of the Health Forum (C-D provides a link at the top of the Retirement Forum).

From what I understand the extra payments to advantage over traditional Medicare will be phased out over time.

Initially the ACA targeted some Medicare funding and specifically mentioned plans managed by insurance companies but later both HHS and CMS made announcements that delayed any action. The government is all over the board on Heathcare right now. For now don't expect dramatic changes.

We got the details of my husband's Anthem plan this week. The rates went from $4 a month to $65 a month. There is also now a $500 deductible. The part I found odd was that they are charging $50 after the deductible for each of the preventative services that Medicare now covers (ie: welcome to medicare visit, yearly physical, smoking cessation etc). We will definitely be looking at other plans this year.

Thanks for the service escort. Due to be kicked off my wife's plan this year, so since I am "of age", I'll have to start looking around.

TY you too, elena. Great article. Two more positives to MA programs. Not mentioned in this article is that dental health is inextricably connected to good overall health, as hearing loss - principally the self-imposed isolation that hearing loss affected individuals tend to sublety impose on themselves is to the greater instance of dementia. Some, not many MA programs offers some coverage for hearing aids. Good overall program.
