I've been doing everything I can to avoid looking for a part time job. At 73 I never thought I would be having to do this, but if I want some fun in my life, I need more money. Like a trip now and then. I am so in need of a nice beach somewhere. Warm enough to swim in a pool. Too many sharks in the ocean these days.
I have an Associates in Humanities, can type really well (was a medical transcriptionist for a long time), upbeat positive personality (not real interested in sales, tho). But would consider a job in some kind of store. But open to ideas.
I recently had a conversation with a former flight attendant. She said a lot of the airlines allow you to work from home as a reservation specialist. If you prefer to work outside of the house, you could work as a gate agent or another customer service type position.
From what I hear, the travel benefits are outstanding. Free flights to beaches.

I would have never known about this if I had not posted this thread. Not sure where the thread may end up, but I'm glad it got into retirement for the time being.
Did you like doing Medical transcriptions, dealing with Medical Terms?
I assume you have a lot of experience/exposure with medical terms and diagnosis.
How about becoming a ICD-10 coder?
Latest (final?) deadline to transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 is Oct 2015
Helps to be certified but I don't think its mandatory, at least not right away, some employers might pay for you to take
course, while working.
Lots of demand (When the deadline does come and go, "Everyone" must use ICD-10, no middle ground)
Might be able to work at home
Jobs with hospitals, doctor offices, labs, insurance companies

Where I am located, medical transcription is mostly done by computers. The doctors dictate and some magic occurs in the computer and it automatically types out reports. So, many of us have been replaced.
I have often thought I should have gone into coding instead of transcription but at the time, I did not realize transcription would eventually be done by computer. I have been told by some I know who do that work that it's a tough thing to learn.
I'm not really looking for a career at 73. More a part time job that will enable me to pay off some debt and give me more spending money.
There are a lot of work at home customer service jobs out there. You do need to have a landline (not cell) and a quiet place to work. If you Google "work at home customer service jobs) you will get several sites that cater to companies looking for such people. Should you decide to go that route make sure you work with a reputable company. I know Indeed.com does a lot of this.
My sister, who will be 80 in a couple of months, works at a well-known retailer three (part-time) days a week. She just started that particular job a year ago. She always said she would never quit working and I guess she's serious! She likes being out of the house, wearing nice clothes, and interacting with the customers. And working helps pay for a trip every once in awhile. Also, I'm pretty sure they have no idea how old she is.

Can't hurt to try!
I am leaning in that direction. Bless your sister!! Good for her.
I don't have work nice clothes.... especially for winter and don't want to run up another bill. So I'm going to try Walmart and Target. We have a well-liked grocery store... Wegman's. A pharmacy on the corner. Lots of places. Just need to get out there and apply myself.
Was going today but yesterday had some things burned off by the dermatologist (face and neck...pre-cancer) and right now it looks like I have a horrible disease. So need to let it clear up a bit.
Thank you Lost Roses.
