Richard Branson: 'I don't believe that retirement should be the goal'

I actually like him, but what a joke....

With a lifestyle like Mr. Branson why would anyone retire?

He thinks happiness should be the goal! Imagine that. If you are worried about being able to pay for a roof over your head and food on the table, money helps! You don't have to be filthy rich to be happy, but being poor is a burden for most people.

The man has a warped version of reality brought about by the social isolation of being super rich.

Wonder what the laborers who work in his factories or the mechanics for his airlines or the maids at his resorts, think of his idea. Anyone working physically cannot work forever.

I wish idiots like him would be forced to live in a mobile home and work at Walmart for a year as a penalty for saying such stupid stuff. Then we'll see what he thinks of retirement when he has to be on his feet all day.

When your "work" is flying a hot air balloon around the world, I guess you don't need to retire.

Maybe he keeps on going/working because he isn't really happy and needs to fill his days with activities.

I am always shocked when famous or rich people come out and reveal their fears, illnesses etc. I think it was Bruce Springsteen that just revealed he lives with deep depression daily and thoughts of death.

Lots of people just can't relax and get enjoyment of watching the world go by. I try my best, but sometimes I also feel like I need to go back to work to fill my days.

I think "Sir Richard" is typical of the delusional types who suffer a profound disconnect from the realities of a proles life. Most of the time these guys have enough brains to know they have nothing to say to their lowly brethren, but in this case Richard really shows his limited ability to sort out the difference between his vast wealth and his notions of his "vast knowledge."

I am 61 and I went back to work part time this past May. I work 11-5 two days a week. It's not much but it keeps my brain from turning to mush and I have a little extra money. Granted not everyone is physically able but it is an office job where I sit or stand at my desk for those 6 hours. I take a 15 minute break to eat my lunch and a short walk around the building. I feel more like I've rejoined the world than I did sitting home 24/7.
