The new Trump budget is out and Meals on Wheels is on the chopping board.
Quote:
Meals on Wheels services are provided directly to seniors by a nationwide network of 5,000 local community-run programs that, in the aggregate, receive 35% of their funding from the federal government.
The 35% federal funding that goes directly to local Meals on Wheels programs comes from the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program that falls under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The impact on these funds has not yet been announced but, given the proposed 17.9% cut prescribed for HHS, could be at risk.
Why is this a Federal function? Is this an approved Federal program or one that has just gone on year after year without Congress approving? Doesn't over 90% of the funding from meals on wheels come from non Federal funds???
Maybe it's time we all donated to charity: Meals On Wheels.
Or volunteered.
It'd be nice if farms would donate "excess' produce for them to add to their meals, reducing costs of buying produce form afar.
I know many who rely{ied} on meals on wheels.
It's a good program. SO much for Trump "Making america Great Again" when he refuses to feed people who have worked and served this country and now need help.
Yet we seem { or at least one leading New cast froup} to be upset that we Can't do enough for South Sudan people who are starving.
Charity begins at home. I think I will re-evaluate my charitable giving and think more for my LOCAL MOW.
Just thinkin'
