Since I got off migraine meds, zero, unless I catch a bug that needs antibiotics or whatever. In reality I am paying a premium, but it comes out of my compensation package before I ever see it, so it doesn't feel like I'm actually spending any money.
My drugs are either $3 or $9 per script, we only get 90-day bottles with 3 refills each.
My last drug was Lupron that the doctor told me costs them $8,000 per shot. I paid $9 co-pay. I take Lupron once every 6 months for 2 years as a feature of radiation treatment for my cancer.
Our hospital has a plan that with your insurance, based on income will give you 100% discount or 75%, or 50% or 25% discount at their pharmacy.
A family of 4 can earn up to $95k a year and still qualify for a discount .
My discount is 100% off my copays. So other than the insurance premium, I pay nothing.
Which is great as I take 18 prescriptions to keep the old body going, and some are very expensive.
If you are having trouble, check to see if your local hospital has a similar financial aid plan, for both their services and or pharmacy.
My other half has a high deductible insurance, but with the aid package, will pay nothing for recent procedures.
And it will count towards the deductible as the insurance has no clue how it was covered or paid.
I have no drug plan and it's hard to estimate the monthly total, but it's close to $15. I have been buying all my medications in Mexico for the past 20 years.
Looks like I'm an outlier in this group. It appears that most responding so far are on Medicare or a comparable plan, but at age 60 I'm not yet eligible. (I retired at 52.) Monthly medical insurance is $500, plus a bit less than $50 for drugs.
My Obamacare premium is $850 a month (up from around $400 pre-Obamacare) and it does not cover my one and only prescription, not available as a generic, which is $500 for a three-month supply. All told, that works out to over $1000 a month base cost, plus another $6000 deductible. In a bad year, I can pay $18,000 for medical care, hardly "affordable" for middle-income earners.
All my drugs are generic and cost $10 for a 90 days supply.
So it costs between $10 and $13 a month for everything.
