I live near Philly. Today's predicted 'minimal' snow quickly turning to rain stayed snow longer than the weather people thought. 3-5 inches.. cars spun out everywhere, drivers stuck on interstates and other roads for hours... and I haven't left my house except to retrieve the newspaper before the snow started this morning. So glad not to have to drive the 45 mile round trip to work.. feel sorry for the poor people stuck in this mess.
Not having to commute in bad weather (and bad traffic) is a close second place finisher for me. First will always and forever be the elimination of the alarm clock from my mornings. Sleep, blissful sleep.
Living in CA as I do we get plenty of snow. But the traffic is light and we both have Subarus with winter tires during snow season. Snow was never an issue. Ice was an issue a few times. My number 1 reason for liking retirement is not having to work.
I get an income without a job and I can sleep in as late as I want. A teenagers dream!
I retire in Feb. I literally cursed my way to work today in the sleet. I cursed my way home in the teaming rain and slush. Retirement can not come fast enough.
We live in a hilly area, so yes, I am glad I no longer have to commute in bad weather.: pouring rain causing fishtailing, icy roads, high winds where there are trees and accumulated snow. Also, the people coming off side streets who slide to a stop with near misses. Also, no more arrogant bosses who favor the ***kissers.
