We've been getting these postcards in the mail for a while now, so last night we attended a free investment seminar at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Interesting speaker, made some good points.
Most of his suggestions we're already doing.
In exchange for an hour of my time, he bought my wife and I (and about 10 other people) dinner.
Plus, he left the tip
Our money is with Fidelity, and while he made some good points, I'm not trusting enough to turn it over to an independent broker/insurance agent.
No pressure at all.
Yes I have been to 3 or 4 dinners at Ruth's Chris. Enjoyed them every one, and no pressure either.
I wouldn't even go unless I could order whatever I want off the menu.
My guess is, it's some fixed meal, the same for everyone, the cheapest plate they can provide.
Normally there are 2 or 3 choices at these dinners. I have had filet mignon, creamed spinach, and mashed potatoes the last 2 times - it was outrageously good. Creme Brule for desert too.
I wouldn't sit through a sales pitch for a free dinner, either, and I don't eat steak or deal with brokers. There might not be pressure initially but once you start dealing with them, they won't leave you alone.
You don't HAVE to deal with them. You just listen, and then EAT. Pretty simple.

Ruth's Chris would be worth it to me... >$50 for 2... for a couple hours + take-away... (x2)
The last presentation we went to was by a guy (age 78+) He made a lot of mistakes, so I would say i=he is past his prime... We brought free educational toys for kids, and I met some very sharp table mates and picked up financial and travel hints. Was worth the waste of a rainy evening. (enjoyed the meals then next few days (Steak burritoes!))
