At age 28, we owned two homes with a shared drive and garage. We rented the one house out. We sold when we moved to NY and decided being landlords once was enough for a lifetime.
We were snowbirds for five years and that was enough too. Two homes did not double our pleasure or double our fun. We felt torn between the two and it was more work than we wanted to do. It was fun at first, but got old fast. We sold the NY home last year, keeping the FL one.
We own 6 SF homes in So Florida which are all paid for and we rent them out, via my sister in law, who is a RE agent. I'm not retired yet, only 40 but will look to at least stop working full time soon.
If I didn't have my SIL managing our properties, I'm not sure I would want to do it myself. Its a lot of work and dealing with some people can be very challenging.
