It's mostly milk with a little coffee syrup like this kind...

Autocrat - PREMIUM COFFEE & SYRUP Since 1895

whereas cafe con leche is mostly coffee.

Both are good!

It's like chocolate milk, but with coffee syrup/flavoring instead of chocolate.

Increasingly hard to find outside of RI, and almost impossible to find outside of New England. New England McDonald's and other fast food joints used to have coffee milkshakes once upon a time too, but now they're much less common.

I don't really care for the do-it-yourself coffee milk using the Autocrat/Eclipse syrup, but some of the store bought coffee milk is decent. I believe that Hood, Garelick Farms, and Oakhurst all make their own (in decreasing order of coffee flavor strength, if my memory serves me right from my schoolboy days as a coffee milk connoisseur )

It is definitely impossible to find outside of RI/New England as no one in other regions of the country has heard of it. Living in the Twin Cities now I order it online to have it shipped to me, but it is one of the many unique and wonderful foods/beverages from Rhode Island that I miss (along with pizza strips, gaggers, and cabinets to name just a few).

I love the Autocrat syrup, and every year at Christmas I but a few large bottles and ship them off to various family members that have relocated to California, Georgia and Florida. Great stuff!

Café con leche is Spanish for "coffee with milk." It refers to a bold coffee mixed evenly with steamed or hot milk. Most American coffee houses will use the French term café au lait (kaf-fay oh LAY) for this combination, although the coffee is not necessary bold or dark. Combinations with espresso and a larger proportion of steamed milk are usually referred to by the Italian term "caffè latte" (or simply "latte" - lah-tay).

A gagger is a New York System hot weiner, a small hot dog served on a small bun with meat sauce and onions. Yummm, but make sure you've got plenty of Tums on hand!

I get mine here at Wein-O-Rama on Rt 5 in Cranston: http://www.quahog.org/attractions/index.php?id=67
