I think the Jump Bikes will be better (and safer) than the scooters.

New electric bikes make debut in Providence

Quote:
JUMP acts like a ride share for electronic bicycles and there are some 400 red bikes around the city. The bikes have a small motor inside which helps riders pedal to make it easier to get around.
Quote:
Reservations for bikes are done on a smartphone app - just like Uber. Prices are reasonable - $2.00 for a half hour and $20 a month with specials for low income families in Providence that includes a $5.00 per year membership for qualifying residents.
Quote:
The bikes are tracked through the locking mechanism and when you reserve one on the app, you get an unlock code that you punch in to the bike that will let you take it from its location and off you go. When you get to your destination, just lock it back up and you will be charged for the usage.

You're supposed to be 18+ to use the Jump Bikes.

13 year old Providence girl on Jump Bike, instead of bus, struck on way to school

Quote:
On the first day of a school bus drivers’ strike Thursday, Providence police said a 13-year-old girl who usually takes the bus was struck by a car while riding a Jump Bike.

More than 200 members of Teamsters Local 251 walked off their jobs at First Student in a dispute over pension benefits, and the city did not provide alternate transportation.

Police said the girl was struck at Hope Street and Doyle Avenue at 8:23 a.m. She was taken to a hospital with minor injuries to her leg.
