We are moving to Richmond during the next few months. We have two children, 11 and 7. We can spend in the low 400s for a home. Good public schools are, of course, important to us.

However, my wife is visually impaired, and although not blind, can not drive. We would like a home which is in walking distance to an elementary school, and is in walking distance to daily retail such as a grocery store. We haver looked mostly in Henrico and Chesterfield.

Of course, sidewalks are a must. It seems that sidewalks are not typical along roads in the Richmond area. For us, they are not simply a nice amenity, but a must.

Can someone point me in the right direction for a home within these parameters?

Many thanks!

Perhaps a place like the Twin Hickory area/neighborhood of Henrico?

That would be my best choice in Henrico--great schools and you can walk to Food Lion/CVS, a wonderful county library, some restaurants, the neighborhood pool and the elementary and high school. I think the middle school may be walkable too for some parts of the neighborhood. If you didn't need to be able to walk to stores, I would recommend Wyndham. The downside to Twin Hickory is it's very cookie cutter, lots are small and many of the houses are vinyl boxes.
