www.hotels.com

Do a search for your desired date ranges. When the search results show up, on the left-hand side you have the option to slide a bar to select desired nightly rate range, guest rating etc. I did a quick search for price range $0 - $40 per night and guest rating of 3 and above and got the following three hotels:

Super 8 Richmond Chamberlayn
5615 Chamberlayne Rd, Richmond, VA, 23227 United States
866-539-0036

Days Inn Carmel Church Va
24320 Rogers Clark Blvd, Ruther Glen, VA, 22546 United States
866-539-0036

Super 8 Ruther Glen Kings Dominion Area
24011 Ruther Glen Rd, Ruther Glen, VA, 22546 United States
866-539-0036

Read the reviews, do a Google Map search to see which location is convenient for you, and book the one you choose.

Good luck.

I would also recommend checking out the sublet/temporary section under Richmond Craigslist, depending on the time/month of your visit you might be able to find something. During the summer many univ. professors etc. go away and sublet their house, rare find but very good deal. Just be vigilant as these are arrangements between private parties (i.e., you and the landlord) so you want to make sure you are not stepping into any scam or dealing with shady characters etc.

You are not going to find a hotel at the daily amount you have listed. You will need to raise the amount and search within the following zip codes:23060,23233. The ones listed in #2 are either in unsafe areas or are greater than 60 km from Richmond and not just the border of it.

Use this link and look for extended stay hotels:

Hi!

First off, who is "we?" Is it you and your family, kids included? Or just you and your DH? I'm moving to Richmond in March and will be staying at the Red Carpet Inn. I've done my due diligence and while many reviews exist on the site about it's negative location and dirty rooms, I've found that it has been put under new ownership and seems to be improving. Depending on how risk-averse you are to questionable areas, it might work. They have listings on CL under the sublets/temp section and you can google map the address. It is 1500 Sherwood Ave.

I plan on staying there on a weekly basis until DF and I find a place to live that we like. FYI, I we are both in our early 20s. He is originally from NoVa, me from a small town of about 7k people. We currently live in Arizona in a less than desireable area due to rent costs/we needed to move quick. It has been considered that we might need to live in two different places, and I had originally decided the the Red Carpet Inn as a place that I would stay myself, solely for it's affordability factor. Again, it really depends on how your risk tolerance but as a 23 year old white, blonde female, I did not have a concern about it.

I do not work for the inn at all - just trying to provide some positive feedback that might fit your situation. Feel free to PM me Best of luck to you!

Also, I believe you can stay there for around 720/mo (the ads on CL that I saw were 180/wk).

I assume when you say Extended stay, you mean a hotel like the branded "Extended Stay" (stove, cabinets apartment like rooms) and not just a long term hotel. Ain't gonna happen for $40/night. Richmond is cheap, but not that cheap. You could get a regular room for that rate though. Hotels.com would be your best bet.

For $1200 a month, you could get a decent apartment!
