Hello! My husband and I are moving to Richmond in 3 weeks and are in the market for a rental in a safe neighborhood. I've heard mixed reviews of the Carytown area. What are your thoughts? My husbands office is on W. Broad St. so we would like to be within 20 minutes of that area. Tips?

Where on Broad? It most of the length of the city and suburban West End, so where his office is located will influence your choice. Are you city people now, and comfortable living in a downtown, urban environment? If yes, then the Fan/Carytown/Museum District would probably be fine. If you want the comforts of downtown but a little more residential, try the near West End -- still within 20-25 minutes of almost all of Broad Street, but within 5-10 minutes of Carytown and its amenities. Much of it is walkable and certainly within biking distance, if that's your thing. If he's working out in Innsbrook or the far West End, he'd have a reverse commute from downtown or the near West End, so it wouldn't be too bad. Although there is other traffic headed out, it's less than the group traveling into downtown.

If you read through this forum, you'll find a lot posted on pretty much every neighborhood.

Not sure what you'd here mixed on carytown, though one could rogue its a business district and the museum district is the place to live... But all silly, museum, carytown, fan, are all perfectly safe. Speaking as one who lives there.
